European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) supports the My Voice, My Choice initiative

On January 22, we received formal support from the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), which brings together representatives of employers’ organisations, trade unions, and civil society from all EU Member States.

With 195 votes in favour and only 12 against, the Committee adopted a positive opinion. Part of it states:

“The EESC calls on the European Commission to submit a proposal for financial support for Member States that would allow anyone in Europe who still lacks access to safe and legal abortion to safely terminate a pregnancy, in accordance with national law.”

This sends a clear message to the European Commission. The Commission is expected to give its final reply to the initiative in March.
