On 17 December, in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted a resolution supporting our European Citizens’ Initiative for safe and accessible abortion, My Voice, My Choice.
The resolution was approved with 358 votes in favour, 202 against, and 79 abstentions: a sign that reducing the number of unsafe abortions has broad support across the political spectrum.
Members of the S&D, Renew, The Left, and the Greens, as well as a large share of the European People’s Party, voted in favour of the initiative. Additional votes of support also came from non-attached Members, as well as a few Members from the ECR and PfE groups.
After the vote, Nika Kovač, coordinator of the My Voice, My Choice campaign, said:
“We started this campaign because we wanted a different Europe—one that listens to its citizens and stops looking away while women’s fundamental rights and lives are threatened. Today was a good day for Europe, democracy, and women’s rights.”
The resolution adopted today sends a clear call to the European Commission, which has until March 2026 to respond with the actions it intends to take.
