Halfway There: Verified Signatures for Safe Abortion in Europe

We’ve reached a major milestone in our European Citizens’ Initiative for safe abortion — we’re officially more than halfway to our goal!

Verified signatures have now come in from Malta, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Slovakia, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Belgium, Latvia, Germany, Croatia, Spain, and Sweden — with very low rejection rates.

The error rate is remarkably low across the board, which is a testament to the care and commitment with which people across Europe have supported this effort.

Even more inspiring, the first country to officially pass its national threshold is one where abortion is nearly completely banned, and where people still face prison for accessing care — Malta. That’s a powerful reminder: people are resisting, even in the most hostile environments.
