The governments of nine EU countries demand that the European Commission supports My Voice, My Choice.

Ministers for equality from nine EU countries are urging the European Commission to support the initiative My Voice, My Choice: Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.


In a letter sent to Hadja Lahbib, EU Commissioner for Equality, who will prepare the response, they wrote that the initiative “represents a vital step toward ensuring fundamental rights, dignity, and equality for women and people who can become pregnant across the European Union.”


Their support is an important signal. As in addition to collecting 1.2 million signatures, getting the support of the European Parliament, heads of state, and support from medical professionals and lawyers. It now also has the support of individual national governments.


The European Commission will provide its final response to the initiative on February 26.
